    26.1.0 Portal Adjustments

Improvements to the Community Portal from everyday use: a sort menu on every list, scheduled publishing that runs, newsletter sign-ups with a confirmation page, and a calmer look on phones.

This release collects improvements to the Community Portal that came out of everyday use, by visitors, members and Portal editors.

    Lists and search

    • Every list of travels, benefits, posts and their topics, destinations and categories has a sort menu instead of a row of buttons. It names the current order, such as "Order: Recommended", and every option is still a link of its own.
    • Featured documents now come first in every list. Topics and other groupings are listed by the weighting Portal editors give them, which visitors see as "Recommended".
    • Every list says what it shows, such as "Showing 1–12 of 21 Benefit Topics", in the reader's language.
    • "Price, lowest first" no longer opens with travels that have no price, and it orders travels by the price their card shows in the current season.
    • The site search only offers travels from the reader's current catalogue, so choosing a result opens it instead of the travels index.
    • On a phone, the site search opens full-screen with its input in view, and the keyboard no longer covers the results.

    For Portal editors

    • Scheduled publishing and unpublishing now run. The Portal carries out schedules every five minutes, including those saved before this release.
    • The "Listing" tab of a topic, destination, hotel, catalogue, post category, benefit type or benefit topic shows the documents assigned to it, drafts included. A document created from there arrives already assigned.
    • A document's address follows its title until it is first published, and it is unique within its content type, so two travels can no longer share one address. German letters are spelled out ("München" becomes "muenchen") instead of being dropped. Published addresses do not change.

    Newsletter

    • The new newsletter block, in six design versions, puts a sign-up form on any page. The newsletter forms in footer designs 3, 4, 6 and 8 now work too.
    • Sign-ups go to the organisation's newsletter service, which sends the confirmation email. The form shows the confirmation text Portal editors write for it.
    • The link in that email can open a page on the Portal, the "Confirmation Page" on the "Newsletter" tab of the Portal's "Configuration". There, readers confirm their address and may add their salutation, their name and their interests. Only pressing "Confirm" confirms the address, not opening the link, so email security scanners cannot confirm it in the reader's place.

    Booking and redeeming

    • The booking and redemption wizards show the travel's or benefit's protected content, the information for members, between the teaser and the document footer. It shows to signed-in readers, as on the document's page.
    • Dates of birth in booking, redemption and membership enquiry emails are written as 05.01.1980, so the team handling a request can type them straight into its own software.
    • A Portal whose members use work devices behind a company network that inspects encrypted traffic can be set up without the bot check in the wizards. Those members are no longer refused in the first step.

    Look and feel

    • The space between two layout blocks is the same everywhere, and a block with a background colour gets the same space inside it.
    • The document footer reads as fine print below the content, and its links are always underlined. Text on every page follows the Portal's palette, in light and dark mode.
    • The promotion card is smaller, and the promotion pop-up fits a phone with its buttons always in view. The close button of every dialog is clearly visible and is announced in the reader's language.
    • The catalogue switcher card is a smaller square, 180 pixels wide.
    • Chips for topics and destinations, or a benefit's type and topic, read as one row from the left.
    • The mobile menu closes after a selection, and on an iPhone a tapped entry is highlighted.

    Reliability

    • A Portal's server now runs in Frankfurt, beside its database. Rebuilding the site search index works again, where it used to fail while reporting success.
