Results and the check log
What each result does to a membership, and what the check log keeps.
Studio roles: "Owner", "Administrator" and "Community manager" read the check log through the check lookup.
Results and reasons
| Result | Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Valid | A register that qualifies found the person, and they passed its filters. | |
| Not valid | "Not found in any register" | No register holds the member code, or only in an entry that is deactivated. |
| Not valid | "Names or birth date do not match" | Onboarding or eligibility only: the register found the code, but the facts typed differ. |
| Not valid | "Refused by a blocking register" | A register with the outcome "Refuses" decided. |
| Not valid | "Found, but no register decides it" | Registers found the person, but none let them in: none counts their status, or their filters do not match. |
| Not valid | "Another person holds the membership" | Onboarding only: the member code's organisation membership belongs to someone else. |
| Not valid | "Valid, but outside the frontend's community" | Eligibility only: a member, but not in the community of the frontend that asked. |
| Unavailable | "A register could not answer" | An external register did not answer in time or answered wrongly, before any register below could decide. |
When a check is valid, its result also says which communities the person lands in. Where a community needs a claim the deciding register could not give, that placement is unknown rather than empty.
The check log
Every membership check is written to the check log. For each check it keeps:
- who asked: the frontend;
- the check mode;
- the member code as typed;
- the register reached;
- the outcome and its reason;
- the version of the membership definition.
It never keeps the names, birth date or challenge code a person typed. For a check in eligibility mode, the applicant's IP address that the frontend forwarded is kept for the rate limits only, and removed by the daily purge once it is a day old.
Checks are kept for 24 months, then deleted.
Read the check log
The check lookup shows every check of one member code. A member's page shows the latest checks of their member code in its "History". Both show the reasons, which never leave the Studio.
